Pilot projects
Implementation of the Basic Set
Implementing the Basic Set of Biodiversity Criteria for the Food Sector ensures a basic level of protection for biodiversity on agricultural land. It creates potential for more habitats and species and helps to prevent or reduce negative impacts of agricultural practices on biodiversity.
To further develop the Basic Set, our member organisations carried out pilot projects to test the implementation of the biodiversity criteria on farms. The documentation of these pilot projects focused on implementing biodiversity measures on farms to meet the requirements of the Basic Set—its objectives and achievements.
The pilot projects
Kaufland
Promoting biodiversity in potato cultivation by creating habitats and food sources for beneficial insects. In addition, investigating whether beneficial insect strips can reduce pesticide use on cultivated areas.
Nestlé Germany
Improving biodiversity in wheat cultivation in Bliesgau (Saarland) by applying the basic set of biodiversity criteria.
SAIME
In our SAIME project, we are working on establishing pilot aquaculture farms that utilize sustainable IMA (Integrated Mangrove Aquaculture) systems...
